Forsyth County Election Chief Speaks at Chapter Meeting

Forsyth County Election Chief Speaks at Chapter Meeting

With just over a year to the presidential election, Director Mandi Smith of the Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections Office told a gathering of Cumming Vietnam Veterans that 2020 will see an additional early voting location.

With around 50 percent of voters casting their ballots in early voting, Ms. Smith said the Elections Board voted at their Tuesday meeting to add the Highway 20 Operations Center to the current early voting locations.

During her presentation to the regular monthly meeting of Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Ms. Smith also informed her audience that the board has voted to accommodate growth by adding four new polling places. The Fowler Precinct will vote at Fowler Park, the Sawnee Precinct will vote at the Highway 20 Operations Center, the new Johns Creek District will vote at Johns Creek Baptist Church and the Nichols Precinct will vote at Old Atlanta Park.

According to Director Smith, the number of registered voters in the county has more than doubled from 2005 when only 76,000 were registered. As of early this week, 163,283 voters are on the rolls.

Ms. Smith said her staff has already begun preparing for the 2020 elections saying,

“New registration cards and precinct cards will go out to every voter affected by any of the changes.” She said the cards will start going out in December.
