According to the organization’s President Gary Goyette members Tom Kirby and Steve Masak were chosen for the annual honor - the highest recognition bestowed at the local chapter level.
Kirby, who resides in Forsyth County, served in Vietnam during 1967 and 1968 as a Navy Corpsman at the Naval Air Station in Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam.
Masak, of Gainesville, was stationed in Vietnam from June 1969 to June 1970 where he served as an Army helicopter pilot with the 119th Assault Helicopter Company based in the Central Highlands.
Goyette, who presented the awards during a Dec. 7 Chapter holiday party, praised the two honorees as “Truly dedicated to both our organization and its focus on assisting homeless veterans in the Atlanta area and North Georgia.” Goyette went on to say that both members are the personification of the VVA motto, “Never Again Will One Generation of Veterans Abandon Another.”
